Remillard vs Laro

WInner:   Matt Remillard: NABF Featherweight  Champ

Promoters: TKO - They seem to run a very professional operation. Their point man, Fred Vega was accommodating. The moment I walked into the weigh-in I was asked for the invoice and paid. The hotel was very nice. The relationship TKO has with the fighters and trainers appears to be friendly. Thomas Treiber, the TKO announcer, was very good. And they all dressed tastefully for the fights. There were several pro debuts and beginners on the card. Despite that, most of the fights were good and showed some real talent. Two who stood out to me were Robert Rodriquez and Danny Aquino.

Arena: The Nomad in Windsor is similar to the Aviator in Brooklyn. It's an arcade that has a restaurant and good size auditorium. It works well for boxing. It holds about 1,500 people. In addition, it has a spacious area, generally used for additional amusement park rides, that they set up for dressing rooms. There's also another area for commission meetings and still another for the larger dressing rooms for main events. This was the first boxing event there. There were about 800 people. It was heavily policed. The Teams were patted down upon entry and no one, without an all access pass, was allowed to watch any fight they weren't participating in.

Commission: Very professional. Everything was orchestrated by the Commissioner, Sgt. Mike Kostrzewa. He ran the show completely. Example: Mike took the judges cards and read them for points and comments before passing them to myself and his staff for the tally. He clearly feels responsible for every aspect of the fight.

Fight: Both fighters went into the ring with good records, strong skill sets and in good condition. It seemed to me, that Remillard had superior technique. Laro, although equally aggressive, threw a lot of wild punches. In the first round, I believe that Laro did a little better than Remillard, but he seemed to be loosing his edge in the next three. Starting round two, I felt there were some fowls committed by both sides. Eddie Claudio, warned both fighters. The fight ended :50 seconds into the fourth round with a TKO by Remillard. There was some controversy as to whether Laro was delivered a low blow causing him to turn and walk away.
