What brought you to boxing?

Former amateur boxer (not that good as I couldn't see - still can't - very far away without my glasses on).  Former sports writer.  Although I participated in team sports, football and baseball mainly, I was always drawn to the one on one competition of boxing and have also been fascinated at some of the behind the scenes maneuvering that goes on.

Why did you choose to be involved with the NABF? I guess we still may be, but when I first got involved with boxing, my home state of Texas was possibly the leader among the NABF member states.  While we do have some IBF folks in Texas now, at the time I got involved the NABF and WBC seemed the way to go.  Outstanding leaders of our Federation and the WBC such as Bob Busse, Dickie Cole, Spider Bynum, and Steve Crosson to name just a few were all active then.

Tell me a little about your life outside the ring?  Although when I was president of the NABF it may have seemed like there was little life outside of boxing, for 24+ years I was the VP and financial officer of a family run business, an automotive and heavy equipment parts distributorship.  Our main executive office was destroyed a few years ago when Hurricane Rita came to visit.  Now I work part time at a company that bought some of our inventory when we closed.  I am also the treasurer and an elected member of the vestry of my church, Holy Trinity Episcopal.

If you could change one thing about boxing what would it be?  Well, I think one of our problems in boxing is that we need some more competent and qualified young people coming in to positions of authority in the sport.

How would you like to be remembered? Tough for me to answer, but basically I guess I would like people to think of me as a good guy who tried to treat everyone fairly and equally.
